As the sun sinks slowly in the west and the waves ripple gently to the shore the romance of a Pacific Island floods the senses. This is the west coast of O’ahu, Hawaii and the Hawaiian feast and hula show is about to begin.
Odessa 1979, it was part of the USSR when we were there, it is now the Ukraine. Australians love the beach and are generally spoilt by balmy warm to hot days to enjoy the water. Other parts of the world are not so lucky.
4 28am, in the gloom before dawn, the first of the Australians who were to become known as the ANZACs, landed on Ari Burnu, now known as Anzac Cove, on 25 April 1915. Within a week 2,000 would be dead, within 8 months 8,141 would be dead and another 26,111 would be wounded. This was Gallipoli.
Below the barren landscape of central Morocco lies an amazing oasis, proving water is the source of life. This photo was taken in 1979 so there may be some changes in more recent times.
It is not near the eyesore that I thought it would be.
